ORGANIC

CERTYFICATION

IN POLAND

AGRO BIO TEST is the first Polish certification body, conducting an independent inspection  program in organic agriculture since 1997. It is the most experienced organisation in this regard:  it originated out of the EKOLAND Association of Organic Producers in Poland (founded  in 1989). The system we developed was modelled on then principles worked out by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements IFOAM. Since international standards stipulate that inspection related activity be performed by a third party, EKOLAND decided to split off the certifying unit, that was registered in 1996 under the name AGRO BIO TEST.

The inspection program conducted by AGRO BIO TEST since 1997 was worked out according to requirements of European Regulation No 2092/91 on the organic production of agricultural products and indications referring thereto on agricultural products and foodstuffs. Since 1 May 2004 EU regulations have been binding in Poland directly and are currently the basis of AGRO BIO TEST organic certification procedures.

In 2005 AGRO BIO TEST certified 1823 organic farms, 24 processors and 3 wild collection projects.

AGRO BIO TEST inspectors are qualified specialists: since 1991 they have taken part in systematically held training (2-3 times a year), including special courses in Switzerland and Germany, and regular workshops in Poland. The inspection team consists of over 50 people.

AGRO BIO TEST guarantees:
- objective and independent inspection services
- availability to all operators applying for an inspection
- confidentiality i.e. protection of inspection data
- moderate pricing of inspection services

AGRO BIO TEST implemented a quality system in 2002 according to norm EN 45011 and received accreditation from the Polish Centre of Accreditation (AC 096) as well as approval of the Minister of Agriculture to perform certifications in organic food production (RE-07/2005/PL).
